Lapidary Journal Name Change - Interview with Editor-in-Chief Merle White
Lapidary Journal is changing its name to Jewelry Artist magazine, you can read the interview here.
I remember picking up my first issue of LJ and the message was that working with stone was a hobbyist/geek thing. Setting a gem was the natural outgrowth of being one of those kids who has a rock collection, with sidelines into chemistry and machining. Now it's an "artistic", creative type thing to be doing.
Which is probably good for the magazine's future, I don't know too many up and coming "rock hounds" in the classic sense. But I will say, you need a little bit of geek in order to do metalwork or stone work. I'll be curious to see how much of the geeky aspects persist. Or don't.
